Jaw bone reduction surgery

Wide and square jaw can be corrected with jaw bone reduction surgery. There are 2 methods of surgery; through the skin (old method) and through the mouth (new method). Dr. Sarun focuses on cosmetic result and performs operation through the mouth only. There will be no incision or scar on your face and therefore no scar related complication such as depressed scar or nerve paralysis. 

With dr.Sarun method, during bone reduction surgery, Masseter muscle which also cause square shape face can also be reduced. Masseter muscle is the muscle of mastigation (chewing). It can be huge in case of abnormal bite habit.

Steps before and on the day of operation

        Due to complexity of the operation, it will be carry on under general anesthesia in the hospital, under close monitor by our anesthesiologist. The incision site will be inside your mouth, so there will be no visible scar after the operation.

 

       Before operation  X-ray scan of the face area is required for proper evaluation and surgical planning. It will be ordered according to an area needed to be corrected.

       On the operation day  For general anesthesia, you need to be withheld from all food and drink at least 8 hours prior to the operation. In the morning, there will be blood test, chest x-ray and EKG. After the operation, you need hospitalization for 1 day, or at least 8 hours.
